Here are three questions to think about!

  1. Where are we finding our salt and light?

  2. What kind of light are you?

  3. What is keeping you from being the salt and light that God has called you to be?

Jesus says that YOU ARE the salt, YOU ARE the light.

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven

-Matthew 5:13-16

Ora -Torah - Yarah

Ora = Light

Torah = Instruction/Law

Yarah = To teach/To Instruct

The mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.3 Many people will come and say,

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.”The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.

5 Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord. - Isaiah 2:2-5

As we move into Matthew 6, on practicing piety, disciples take with them the metaphors of

salt and light, and they know in each case that the focus is not on them but on what they do,

how they impact others, and the seasoning and the guiding they provide.
